A journey of growth and dedication

At Lissette Valle CMHC, my professional journey is defined by a commitment to continuous learning and a client-centered approach. My philosophy of counseling is grounded in person-centered, trauma-informed, and evidence-based practice. I believe the therapeutic relationship is foundational to change and that clients are the experts of their own experiences. My role is to provide a safe, collaborative space that supports insight, empowerment, and growth.

Philosophy of Counseling

My counseling philosophy will continue to evolve as I gain experience and pursue additional training in trauma-informed care. I plan to continue integrating evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), while viewing clients through the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. I also hope to continue providing culturally responsive, bilingual counseling that honors each client's unique experiences, values, and goals while integrating faith when it aligns with the client's preferences.

Clinical Skills and Theory Development

I plan to continue strengthening my clinical skills by pursuing EMDR certification after graduation and seeking advanced training in treating complex trauma and dissociation. I will continue refining my case conceptualization, treatment planning, and documentation skills through consultation, supervision, and continuing education. As I gain experience, I want to become increasingly confident in integrating multiple evidence-based approaches while tailoring interventions to meet each client's unique needs.

Research and Scholarly Activity

I plan to remain current with counseling research by regularly reading peer-reviewed journals, attending professional conferences, and participating in continuing education related to trauma, EMDR, and evidence-based counseling practices. Staying informed about new research will help ensure that the interventions I use are effective and supported by current evidence. I also plan to maintain membership in professional counseling organizations that provide access to research and educational resources.

Professional Service, Leadership, and Advocacy

I plan to advocate for greater access to culturally responsive and bilingual mental health services within my community. As my experience grows, I hope to become involved in professional counseling organizations, participate in community outreach, and support initiatives that reduce barriers to mental health care. I also hope to eventually supervise and mentor counseling interns as a way of giving back to the profession and supporting future counselors.

Mentorship

I plan to continue seeking mentorship throughout my counseling career. My clinical supervisor has demonstrated the value of thoughtful supervision, clinical consultation, and lifelong learning. After graduation, I hope to maintain professional relationships with experienced clinicians, pursue EMDR consultation as I work toward certification, and actively seek feedback that challenges me to continue growing. As I gain experience, I would also like to serve as a mentor for future counseling students and new clinicians.

Wellness Plan/Self-Care

Maintaining my own wellness will remain an essential part of my professional development. I plan to establish healthy boundaries between work and personal life, prioritize time with my family, and engage in regular self-care activities to reduce stress and prevent burnout. I will continue using supervision and consultation when working with difficult cases and seek my own counseling when needed. Remaining mindful of compassion fatigue and practicing ongoing self-reflection will help me provide the highest quality care to my clients.
